Cuisinart Grind & Brew 10-cup Automatic Coffeemaker DCC-690PC Review

Cuisinart Grind & Brew 10-cup Automatic Coffeemaker DCC-690PCI just purchased the Cuisinart Grind and Brew. The coffee really tastes great. The only problem that I have is that the unit must be cleaned after each use. Sure, it is easy to clean, but it does take more time than non-grind type units.Condensation forms in the grinding area, and the coffee grounds stick. Grounds also stick to the area where the coffee is blown into the filter.
Bottom line, the coffee is good. Just know that you have some cleaning to do. I think it is a flaw in the design. There is no where for the condensation to go from the heated water,so it forms in the grind area.

Melitta MEMB1 Mill & Brew Coffeemaker Review

Melitta MEMB1 Mill & Brew CoffeemakerI researched a grind and brew coffee maker for 3 months before purchasing this one.I'm thrilled with it. I used to work at prominent kitchenware store and didn't hear good customer reviews about the Cusineart Grind and Brew and the Capresso....The Melitta makes a great cup of coffee, it's easy to use, grinds the beans quickly and you get your choice of course to super fine. The only programing is easy as is the clean up...no hassle which was important to me.The only thing I have noticed is that you need to use more scoops of beans than specified. (I make 4 cups each morning and use about 3 scoops of beans for strong coffee)...

Cuisinart DGB-475 Grind & Brew 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemakers Review

Cuisinart DGB-475 Grind & Brew 10-Cup Automatic CoffeemakersI went ahead and purchased this product after a lot of research and despite what some of the negative reviewers say. I've had built-in grind coffee machines for awhile, and I can honestly say this little machine produces some of the best tasting coffee there is! The cleanup is easier than my old GE machine (with grinder). No, it's not as easy as a normal coffee maker without the grinder, but then you don't get the freshly ground coffee either.

You're going to have to decide what is right for you. I program mine the night before and wake up to fresh coffee in the morning. The grinder is noisy, but is still quieter than my old machine. After I pour my thermos, it takes me all of three minutes to disassemble and rinse the parts out with hot water, leaving them to drip dry in the sink for when I get home. About once every couple weeks, I hand wash the parts.

I use the thing every week, 5 days a week. It's awesome. I've had no trouble with it. You just have to know that you're getting a grind-and-brew, not just some regular coffee maker. If you're looking for quality coffee, then this is your ticket.

Cuisinart DGB-600BC Grind and Brew Coffee Maker (Brushed Chrome) w/ DGB-600RC Thermal Carafe Review

Cuisinart DGB-600BC Grind and Brew Coffee Maker w/ DGB-600RC Thermal CarafeWe Louisianans like our coffee pretty brawny, and you just can't get good, strong brew from this machine. I brought the first one back, and traded for a different one (same model) because I thought it was defective. Ended up taking #2 back, too, for a refund.
While your typical brew-only machine might have 3-4 parts, this one (I think) has 7 or 8. After making the coffee, the entire grinding portion has to be disassembled and cleaned (bean cup with lid, blades, chute) - much of the actual ground beans are trapped here, and all these parts are thickly coated with wet, steamy bean sludge.
All would be forgiven if the coffee was delightful, but it is merely lackluster and uninspired.
Good idea, but not well executed.

Cuisinart DGB-550BCH Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Black Chrome Review

Cuisinart DGB-550BCH Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Black ChromeI was extreemly dissapointed in this coffee maker.I had been grinding my own beans every morning and using a Mr Coffee maker.I treated myself to this coffee pot and should have stuck with my old methods. The coffee is good, however no better than it was with my old pot.

Here's the thing, the steam from the coffee goes up into the grinding station meaning that it has to be, not only rinsed, but cleaned after each use.As well as other components. And if you are a household that will make more than one pot of coffee in a row, FORGET IT!There is nothing more frustrating that having to completely clean out the coffee maker for a cup of coffee. So if you want fresh ground coffee in the morning, use a separate grinder.

Coffee Maker/Grinder Combo Review

Coffee Maker/Grinder ComboReceived this as a Christmas gift for our office. Normally I would say, "It's a gift, I'll deal with it." -- But this thing is so bad... gift or not... it's just crazy.

Cannot use grinder function. We (3 of us) have read the book and followed the instructions EXACTLY... but coffee grounds still get into actual carafe... and spill all over the inside of the actual unit causing a huge grotesque mess. The carafe itself is poorly designed with a small spout, so even very careful pouring causes coffee to drip down the side onto to the floor each time you pour.

Extremely slow, as well. Have seen fifteen-dollar Wal-Mart cheap-a-roo specials that brew at least 2-3 times as fast as this does. You'd better program this thing to brew each morning before you actually want your coffee... you definitely want to set it to start brewing at least 20 minutes before you plan on having your first cup!! Lots of waiting... waiting... waiting... waiting...

I keep wondering if the person that gifted this to us was angry at us for some reason. LOL

Cuisinart Coffee Maker & Grinder - Thermal Carafe - Stainless steel Review

Cuisinart Coffee Maker & Grinder - Thermal Carafe - Stainless steelWe just got this coffee pot at Costco for $99 and LOVE IT! It takes a little more work getting set up than our old Mr. Coffee pot. You have to clean the grinding components each time for optimal taste - that is why I only gave it 4 stars. But the extra time is worth it. The coffee tastes amazing and it is ready when we wake up in the morning. I haven't experienced any leaking problems like I have heard about.

BRAND NEW Cuisinart Grind&Brew Thermal 12-Cup Coffee Maker Review

BRAND NEW Cuisinart Grind&Brew Thermal 12-Cup Coffee MakerAt first we were thrilled about the combination of fresh tasting coffee and brewing convenience. We gladly accepted the responsibility to clean it at least once a week (sometimes every three or four days for wetter beans).Over time, our visions of here's what we've discovered.

1) The grind feature is very loud. That is not convenient when you want to grind and brew a pot and still let everyone else sleep.Other grinders that I've used are loud, but this one screams.

2) To clean the coffee maker, the manufacturer provides a small table spoon/cleaning brush. At first, it seems like a cool little accessory, but the brush end is not practical for cleaning out the chamber that the ground bean travel through on their way to the filter. We end up using the handle of a plastic spoon to clear the passage.

3) The thermal properties of the pot are nice, but pours about as well as my two year old...drips here, drips there, and often the coffee runs down the side of the pot.

4) Finally, the straw that turned me completely off of this machine: Lately, maybe once or twice per week, the coffee does not flow correctly from the filter chamber to the pot.Approximately two cups of steaming brew end up on the floor and counter.Yes, the pot lit is clean and placed correctly into the machine, just like we have always done.

The machine is good in concept, but poorly designed.

Cuisinart DGB-300 Automatic Grind and Brew 10-Cup Coffeemaker Review

Cuisinart DGB-300 Automatic Grind and Brew 10-Cup CoffeemakerFrankly, I'm a little surprised at the wide range of reviews here for this coffeemaker.
Yes, the coffeemaker does have to be cleaned after every brewing. No, it doesn't make bad coffee. No, you can't just dump coffee beans or ground coffee into the coffeemaker and make good coffee automatically.
The Coffee Bar, as Cuisinart likes to call it, does have several internal parts which must all be in place before you can brew coffee. You can use ground coffee, but you're defeating the purpose of the Coffee Bar by doing so.The grinder compartment can hold enough beans to make 10 strong 6-oz cups of coffee which is what "10-cup" usually means with appliances.I like my coffee very strong and I've been able to load more than enough beans into the coffeemaker to get the strength of coffee I want.
Between the grinder and the attached drain basket is an attached screen through which the ground beans goes through and an inserted gold basket filter which must be in place in order to make coffee. On top of all of this is a cover which fits over the basket into which hot water is pumped up over the grounds and then drips down into your fresh grounds.
On this cover, there is a dial setting which you must set each and ever time depending on the amount (and what I've discovered -- strength) of the coffee you want to have. Finally, this entire assembly is covered by a lid attached to the rear of the coffeemaker and latches in front.
The entire internal assembly MUST be cleaned after each and every brewing. So, yes, if you make multiple pots, you need to clean it each time.(However, is this any different than any other coffee appliance?)
There are additional settings on the front of the coffeemaker that also affect the quality of the coffee; so, basically, the coffeemaker is NOT intuitive and you have to read the instruction manual before you start brewing coffee with this appliance.
All of that said, this coffeemaker makes EXCELLENT coffee.I own two of them, because I originally purchased the version in white, because it was all that was available. When the version in black became available, I bought a second one. Both are still in excellent working condition and I haven't had any problem with either.
The Cuisinart Coffee Bar is a little pricey, but it does make great coffee and I heartily recommend it.

Cuisinart DGB-550BK Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker Review

Cuisinart DGB-550BK Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic CoffeemakerI just purchased this coffee maker to replace my Cuisinart Coffee on Demand. This is the second coffee maker like this that I have owned and I am glad that I have come home. When my coffee on demand went out, I purchased another brand coffee maker and returned it within 3 days.

My husband and I consider ourselves coffee snobs and about a year ago began purchasing our coffee whole bean solely and thought it would be a great "ease" in our morning coffee routine to own this machine again.

I have read reviews about the difficulty of cleaning and noise of the grinder. It is actually really easy. After I grind and brew a pot of deliciously strong, rich, hot coffee; I open the lid and take out the grinder rinse it off with hot water and set it on a towel.I then take out the gold tone filter, empty the grounds, rinse it and set it on the towel. Then I remove the filter basket and lid and rinse them and set them on the towel.I leave the top lid open to dry out the inside and by the time I am ready to brew another pot of coffee all parts and inside of the machine are dry and ready to go.All together it takes me less than minutes to clean it.And then when all the parts are ready for a deep clean, I through all parts, including the carafe and lid, into the dishwasher.Piece of cake.

All in all this is the most incredible coffee maker that I have ever owned and the easiet to use and I don't have to worry now about replacing my worn out bean grinder, my coffee maker doesn it for me.

And a note about the grinder basket.I have read reviews that have said that it doesn't hold enough beans for a full 12 cups and then it can't be adjusted for the 1-4 cup feature. The grinder holds just as many beans as what I used in my counter top grinder for 12 cups. And if you only want to brew 1-4 cups of coffee, only put in enough beans for 1-4 cups. The grinder will still run for the 30 seconds that it is set for the 12 cups but it works well and you don't even realize it's doing it.

I would highly recommend anyone who loves to brew whole bean coffee, whether occasionally or everyday, to buy this machine. You don't have to always brew whole beans it this machine, you can turn off the grinder and place pre-ground coffee right into the filter. Also a piece of cake.

I would also recommend that you try the gold tone filter that comes with it.It mixes the oil from the whole bean in with the coffee and gives such a boost in the coffees smoothness and flavor.

Cuisinart DGB-600BC Grind and Brew, Brushed Chrome Review

Cuisinart DGB-600BC Grind and Brew, Brushed ChromeYe gads.I forgot all about the fierce partisanship amongst purchasers that this wee little machine invokes.Last year, I dutifully combed through all of the reviews and was almost pursuaded to look to another machine.Thank the stars I was not.Like many, I was won over by the lure of (1)the thermal carafe, (2) the auto grind&brew feature, and (3) the shininess.I also trusted the Cuisinart name and had been previously pleased with the Brew Central.I noted, however, that many writers were highly displeased with (4) the noise and (5) the mess. So, after a year, here are my experiences:

(1)The thermal carafe rocks out loud.Yes, pre-heating the carafe seems to keep the coffee hotter for longer, but on the crazy work-mornings that I use the auto-grind&brew function, I do not pre-heat and find no need to, as I am out of the house at light speed.Note that the coffee is still scaldingly hot.People seem irritated/perplexed at the slowness with which coffee is dispensed from the carafe, as well as the steep pouring angles necessitated by the carafe.I am not at all disturbed by either; however, a relative in need of immediate coffee discovered that one can get faster pouring by just removing the lid.Which defeats the awesome vacuum-packed thermal hotness, but seems a likely remedy for those with a fundamental aversion to slow pours. As far as weird geometry issues, I have nothing to offer.

(2)The auto grind&brew is very convenient. It has always worked flawlessly for me and really amazes and pleases guests who may rise before residents.

(3)It is damn shiny.
(NB:I have a lot of stainless in the kitchen and, through trial and error, have found that the Method stainless steel cleaner keeps it all damn shiny and keeps me from going stark raving from the constant buffing and rubbing).

(4)The noise?Really not that unusual for a coffee bean grinder.I did not notice that it was any louder than other grinders. If the "grind" portion of the auto grind&brew is waking one too early, I would imagine that one could either pregrind or use ground beans and just skip the "grind" function. While it is intriguing to imaging a space age machine with stealth grind mode, I would urge potential buyers to neither expect silence nor let lack of silence keep you from buying this machine.

(5)The ire over the mess was what nearly kept me from purchasing this maker. And I completely forgot about the issue until just now when I re-read some of the reviews.I guess that I don't understand what "mess" they mean. There are seven parts to this thing that I clean:carafe/lid, filter/basket/lid, and grinder base/lid.I rinse the carafe and filter with hot water and clean the rest with hot soapy water. It all takes approximately 2.5 minutes.I never have to clean the rest of the machine.I usually tilt the top-loader lid open to let condensation out after brewing is done.I occasionally wipe the inside of the machine down with a damp cloth.I have replaced the water filter a couple of times. But altogether, clean-up is not that big of a deal.Maybe others are not getting a tight enough seal on the the grinder parts?

SUMMARY:I have had this machine for over a year and have never had a single problem with it.It makes delicious, hot coffee.I was almost deterred by the problems that others have had with it, but am glad that I opted to take my chances.I gave it four, rather than five stars because so many people have had problems with it.Even though I have not experienced these problems, the negative feedback must nonetheless be taken into consideration.

cheers!

~currer bell

Krups KM7000 Grind-and-Brew 10-Cup Coffeemaker, Black Review

Krups KM7000 Grind-and-Brew 10-Cup Coffeemaker, BlackAfter my fifth Cuisinart Grind and Brew Coffee maker (3 different models) stopped functioning I decided on choosing a different brand. There were no reviews so I crossed my fingers and hoped that Krups worked out the kinks with this new model. I had to wait 2 months for the coffee maker as it was ordered before it was released and I am so happy to say that the 2 month wait was MORE THEN worth it!!

Pros:
Quality Construction:
This unit is sturdy and heavier then the other grind and brews that I have owned. It appears to be well constructed. The hinges on the water canister are plastic but I don't see them breaking off anytime in the future. The basket handle also feels light, but only time will tell with that part. Also the plastic top on the carafe feels "heavy duty" (all 5 of the lids on my previous coffee makers' carafes lost their connector pegs within a few months and I had to purchase replacements that did the same thing). The levers all appear sturdy and are easy to move. The levers all catch and hold on the first attempt as well.

Ease of Use:
Super easy to set up and program! I love the fact that there are not multiple pieces that need to be cleaned and then replaced before and after brewing. The aroma setting really does make a difference when making small batches (2-4 cups) of coffee!

Noise:
I was surprised how quite this machine is compared to the other grind and brews. The loud grinder of the coffee pot would wake me up before my alarm would go off on my previous pots and I slept right through this one!

Appearance:
The coffee maker looks like a quality piece of kitchen equipment. It is a bit bigger then I thought it would be, but its size gives it a presence on the counter. The LCD displays a ton of information and adds to it's "high tech" appearance.

Function:
Everything is contained! The way the machine is made allows for the grinds to go directly into the basket without them falling into the water reservoir! The other review mentions that they had grinds on the counter, but we did not experience this as we only had a few grains that were easily wiped off (ours is set to one dot before the biggest grind). We have not experience any jamming of the automatic lid - it closes by itself and functions properly.

Taste:
One of the best cups of coffee I have had in a long time! I love that you can program the strength of the coffee and after brewing a few test pots - we could easily see that this function really works and is not a gimmick! The coffee was the perfect temperature! The automatic shut off will shut the idle pot off after two hours, but I think you can just hit the "On" button to start the warmer plate up again (Not sure about this yet).

Clean Up:
If you have owned one of the multiple piece grind and brew machines you will love the ease of clean up on this one!!! Basically, you clean out the removable filter holder. The clear plastic that shoots the grounds into the filter basket is removable for cleaning, but it does not have to be removed and cleaned after each use! How cool is that!

Extras:
The water filter in the bottom of the coffee pot is a nice touch and I love that you can program the coffee maker to tell you when it is time to change it. The smile face on the the LCD display is just too cute!

I wish.....

I wish it stored more coffee then it does as I was hoping to avoid purchasing another coffee canister. You will still need to purchase or use an airtight canister. NOT a big deal at all!

I wish the clock was able to be programed in regular time (it is in military time). There may be a way to change this, but I have yet to figure it out. So for now, it is a 5 Star Coffee Maker for me! We have made 5 pots of coffee so far and all were consistent. I will come back and edit the review as time goes on if things change. Obviously after using the Cuisinart Grind and Brews for years the tiny flaws of this machine are easy to overlook! Right now I highly recommend this machine because of its appearance, ease of use, construction and wonderful tasting coffee!!!

UPDATE: After three months of perfect use the grinder stopped working. One morning it just wouldn't go on. I tried everything. I called Krups and they told me to ship it to one of their work centers and I should get a new one in two weeks.... it has been a month and I still do not have a coffee maker. I am so sad because this machine worked really REALLY well. Maybe my problem was a fluke. I hope anyway. I am very disappointed.

Cuisinart DGB-650BC Grind-and-Brew Thermal 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Metal Review

Cuisinart DGB-650BC Grind-and-Brew Thermal 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed MetalI love the new look!We had the older version for about 6 years. This new one is sleeker and much easier to clean and keep clean (the inside where the grinder sits gets cakey due to condensation).I got it for $149, used Amazon Prime, and had it in a few days!I love it.If you're thinking of getting this grind and brew with stainless carafe, it is nice. Some parts will have to be replaced over the years like the older version, but the taste of the freshly ground coffee every day is worth it. I never pre-heat the carafe like the directions say because that defeats the purpose of the timer. I've never had an issue with the coffee temperature, it's always hot! I also recommend hand-washing over dishwasher. The carbon filters are similar to Brita and can be found for cheap at Kohl's. One other note is it only makes 10 cups as opposed to the typical 12 cups. This is fine for me because it's just me and my husband, but if you need to make a ton of coffee regularly, this may not be a good choice.Overall, I love it and I'm glad I traded up!
