Either my machine is a lemon or there are some serious design flaws.In short, ours' clogs up very easily.I finally bought Lavazza beans at the recommendation of a Saeco retailer who said that the beans are that much more important with conical burr grinders.At first the lavazza beans seemed to solve the clogging issue but after about 8-10 coffees it happened again.I can't imagine Saeco would intend consumer to clean the brew unit every couple days and not everyone buys the "perfect" gucci italian coffee bean.Also, when my wife set the dial to 7 to make basically a full cup of regular coffee, part of it leaked out the bottom of the machine (it's happened twice now).It's amazing how quickly coffee will stain a countertop if yr not aware the leak is there at first.Needless to say, for marital harmony the machine is going back and I'm going to pop more $ for a gaggia or Jura Capresso.We had a Saeco Royal previous to this one and honestly we abused that machine with oily beans, we didn't clean it often and it just kept on ticking.When the Rondo did brew a shot in the last few weeks of use the coffee was very good with a nice crema.Saeco customer service blamed the clogging on the coffee beans I was using previously (Cafe Vivace - seattle) which I found hard to believe.We have not called them about the leaking as we've just given up at this point.It CAN make good coffee but either there is a serious design flaw, or again, we got the lemon.Just be advised since many of you know how poorly a day can start at 0530 when yr denied coffee.....

First of all, this machine is physically superior to all other super-automatic brands I checked out.The top line Jura, Saeco, and Krups are all wrapped in plastic with steel accents in front while the Delonghi is fully encased in steel.The engineering is very solid and it has a gorgeous presence in the kitchen.

If you like Cappuccino, you will love this machine and its truly one touch operation.However, you must use proper sized Cappuccino cups to get the full experience.The machine is tuned to froth the milk and add the espresso shot so that froth extends about 1/4 inch above the edge of the cup. You can change these settings, but out-of-the-box it is perfect.I have never had a better Cappuccino anywhere - even Italy.(I use Illy medium roast beans).The milk container is incredibly convenient.I have placed the machine near my fridge so I simply store the milk container in the fridge after each use.It snaps in and out of place very easily.

The espresso shots are wonderful.It is important that you take note of the grind setting when you open the box before you change it.They set the grind setting at the factory for each machine and it is unlikely that you will find a better mark.People say that super-automatics can't make a shot as good as the manual machines but think this machine defies that rule.

To really enjoy and understand this machine, you need to read the manual and take some simple extra steps before and after you use it each day.First of all, use the rinse feature often.It takes 1/2 second to push the button.If the machine has been sitting for a while, hit rinse before you use it so the infuser will heat up.After your last cup for the morning etc, hit rinse.It is a quick and simple way to keep the machine working well.Second, before and after you use the milk container, hold the CLEAN button for 5 seconds.It blasts steam through the internal parts that transport the milk.There is no other way to clean the milk that enters the machine.If you don't do this, the milk will harden in the machine and cause problems.You do not need to CLEAN after every cup, just when you are finished for that period of the day.Again, it is quick and simple and makes a big difference.Finally, prep your machine based on your usage.Don't let the machine tell you to empty the container, fill the beans, or fill the water.Get ahead of it so that your coffee making sessions are not interrupted by these messages.Once every day or so, depending on usage, just check everything before you start so you don't waste time or coffee.

Here is an important point. If you are drinking alone, this super- automatic is as much work or more than a manual machine.You need to prep and clean it more than a manual machine.The super-automatic only pays off in terms of convenience when you make the second cup and beyond.With this machine, you can just hit CAPPUCCINO 10 times in a row and you will have 10 cups - it's that simple.But after 14 cups you refil the water, empty the grounds container, top off the beans, clean the milk and rinse the infuser.To me, its all worth it because it makes a great cup of coffee and it is just so damn cool.

In summary, I am so pleased with this product that I was motivated to write this review.What else can I say?

Jura-Capresso 13289 Impressa S7 Avantgarde Automatic Coffee and Espresso Center Review

Not sure if the first reviewer is misdirecting his dissatisfaction. Sounds like the spending of the vacation money was the real problem. Because this machine is perfect, and I have nothing bad to say about it. Other than that it does look a little Spartan, but only in a minor way.

It brews an wonderfull espresso, with thick, golden, foamy crema. It brews it absolutely perfectly, and consistently everytime. Overall the functionality of this machine is superb, and very customizable. Each button can be programmed to YOUR specifications, so easily a monkey could do it. The cup warmer is genious, the clean-up is easier than ANY drip maker I have used/owned. Overall the machine is also very quiet.

The 'Foofy' drinks (as I like to call them) are top notch! My wife prefers the lattes, Chai teas,etc. The frother on this machine has it's own dedicated thermoblock boiler, so there is no lag time, and the froth is excellent. Micro-bubbles as good as any Barista. Water filtering system is great, easy to activate, grinds, tamps beans which is excellent. Also has a chute for already ground coffee, good for Decaf, or flavored.

I guess you could complain about the plastic on the outside, but this does not bother me at all. and frankly seems easier to keep clean, which is a concern since milk etc splatters on the machine when you froth. Also keeps the machine lighter and enables you to move it without breaking your neck.

The ONLY difference between this machine and the S9A is the following:

Exterior look, S7A has black accents, S9A has the same plastic accents, but in silver.

S9A comes with the Frother X-Press, which quite honestly is useless unless you are entertaining and brewing several milk drinks at once. Anyway, frothing in the cup is fun.

The cup warmer on the S9A has stainless tray, whereas the S7A is plastic.

Otherwise, the functionality and insides of the machines is the same. And this is where both of these machines shine, on their functionality. They brew excellent, hot, delicious, rich, coffee in less than 60 seconds. They are tried and true, well-reviewed models.

If you are in the market, don't think twice about a Jura, the quality is fantastic, and end result brew is second to only a Semi-Auto.

Krups XP7225 Compact Fully Automatic Espresso Machine Review

We bought this machine from Williams-Sonoma and liked it so much that we stuck with the coffee through four separate units, each of which failed within three weeks for a different reason.My wife and I each drink 2-3 shots of espresso per day, for a total of 6-8 cycles of the machine (including self rinsing): this is within their warranty rate of 10 cycles per day.We use non-greasy beans and reverse-osmosis water, both of which are recommended by the manufacturer.At first I thought we just got unlucky -- every factory makes a few lemons -- but after four machines and four independent failure modes I'm convinced they're just poorly built.

For coffee : 4-5 stars.When they work, these machines are just adjustable enough for us - you can adjust the grind, the water temperature, and the water volume independently to "sight in" your ideal shot.For reliability: -4 stars.I would give this product just a single star, but the titanium fronted one comes with a terrific milk-frothing assembly that makes great, silky foam every time.That alone is worth a second star.

Machine #1: worked for three weeks, then mysteriously failed with an error code "DE" on the screen.Krups support was baffled.

Machine #2: worked for 1.5 weeks, then the burr grinder broke - motor would turn but wouldn't grind coffee.

Machine #3: DOA - on initial plug-in, entered an infinite loop of "calibrating machine" cycles.(I think an internal sensor was jammed).

Machine #4: worked for 3 weeks, then mysteriously started spewing acrid, electrical-insulator smoke.

I suggest a Delonghi Magnifica - they can be found for under $1k and are actually designed to be maintainable - or a semi-auto with built-in burr grinder (Breville makes one).

... when I looked at the price of these coffee machines,but I am so pleased that I made the leap.It's an expensive luxury,but we've come to feel it's a "must have" if really good coffee is of importance to you.We had had a Capresso coffee machine to make lattes and other treats, so I was familiar with the brand.That gave me the confidence to trust that Jura-Capresso made a machine that might be worth the investment.And boy, are we thrilled!!The coffee is dependably wonderful every time.We don't throw out the last half of a pot nor do we feel compelled to keep drinking just to finish that pot.Each cup is made hot and fresh every time.While it may be pricey, we recommend it.If you need just a little encouragement to switch to such a machine... Jura-Capresso 13531 Impressa C5 Fully Automatic Coffee Center, Piano Black Review

I have purchase the new Jura-Capresso Impressa C5 before it had been released. So I had to wait for several weeks for its delivery. Once it arrived it took a good couple of hours to read through the manual, (the machine operation is not intuitive). It had all kinds of warnings for grinding: no oily beans, no flavored beans, and so on. (You could grind such beans in separate grinder and use it in the grinded beans compartment. I have not tried this yet). So, I have followed the instructions closely, and for about 5 to 7 days it worked fine. However, one morning, after the first cup of coffee I made, I could not make a second one. (There was no coffee coming out of the spouts). I try different approaches to solve the issue myself, however eventually called the company. The representative had walked me through some steps, basically squandering more and more of my good beans, but was not able to solve the problem. To his credit, once he realized he can not resolve the issue he offered to replace the body of the machine. The way it worked; the company has sent the new body and a label to send the old one back. (I had to remove all the removable parts: water tank, spout for cappuccino, and such)It took about a week for a new one to arrive. On arrival, I have noticed that the spout on the new one did not feet as well as on the old one, but I did tried to froth the milk yet. (I hope it works)
As far as quality of the coffee it makes, it is not bad; it is still not a commercial quality, but the machine makes a creama that is somewhat resembling of a good European café coffee. I have tried several different kinds of beans and came to the conclusion that quality of beans make a bigger difference than the machine itself. (I tried the good beans in the cheap espresso machine and the coffee was almost as good).The best beans I found were at the "Whole Foods" store.
Overall, I think it is way overpriced, and I would not purchase it again.

I purchased this recently after I returned my unreliable Saeco V'spresso model. This machine has been much more reliable and makes excellent quality espresso/cappuccino with the push of a button.
