Cuisinart 4 Cup Coffee Maker 580410 Review

We were desperate to replace our worn out coffee pot, and did not have time to look online because I wanted one in my hand right away- I had to go to three stores before I found what I thought I was looking for. We had a 4 cup, black Krups coffee maker, that I had gotten for free through Gevalia for FIFTEEN YEARS!!! Four cups worked fine for us, and the glass carafe is still intact- I am saving it!
I ended up buying this 4 cup from Cuisinart, and the coffee it made was fine BUT I have replaced it while it still is working because I hated it so much!! The 'stainless' steel carafe stains immediately, it is a nice burnt caramel inside. The capacity is stingy, #the glass ones are more generous# the hole in the back that all coffee pots seem to have now, drips as soon as you get near it. We could usually easily take the carafe out,but it fought everytime when putting it back on the element. Black water sometimes appeared underneath for unknown reasons #we replaced it in less than three months!!!# and the element only stays hot for THIRTY MINUTES!! The worst problem is that you can't pour coffee without spilling coffee!! you have to pour over the sink!!
We have replaced it with a beautiful 12 cup programmable coffee maker from Mr Coffee, my daughter wanted it to be programmable but she has only used that function once!! I'd like to be able to unplug it, BUT since it has a digital clockface, unless you want to program it everyday, you need to leave it plugged in, as a vampire. Makes great coffee though, and keeps the element hot for 2 hours!! Very easy to get along with, makes only 4 cups, if that is what you want, very pretty on the counter- we got the one with the red around the top, carafe goes in and out without any problems at all. Hope this one will last 15 years, but who knows. #our stand up freezer is 59 years old- they really don't make things like they used to!!#We bought the BVMC-EJX36 modern design with stainless steel accents, the front has a target look design- Amazon doesn't list that one- this one is the closest.Mr. Coffee FTX49 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black/Red

Sunbeam 12-Cup Black Programmable Coffeemaker Review

Again, i read the reviews prior to purchasing and found many people going for the "High End" coffee makers and ended up not being satisfied.My wife wanted a programmable for the odd times she may have to get up in the morning so coffee would already be brewed and waiting.This maker also comes in a non programmable model but you don't have to use the programming feature and can bypass it as i often do.It brews a great cup of coffee, the 12 cup pot is enough for us to enjoy a morning cup and fill our to go mugs.It brews the coffee hot and keeps it hot.The only thing to be aware of is that it has an automatic 2 hour shut off for safety - a good thing for those of us who forget to turn the coffee maker off - but can be annoying on days you are home and may want a hot cup later on.All you have to do is push the button on the right again and it will rewarm.I love this coffee maker and would recommend trying this one before much more expensive models unless you just like spending money.

Coffee Maker, 4 Cup White Review

I am a modest coffee drinker. I drink 4 cups a day, and I require little of a coffeemaker other than an on/off button. My last perfectly servicable Mr. Coffee 4-cup machine bit the dust, so I replaced it with this one, because at least I could re-use the carafe.
Well, the internal design guys have been at the guts of this one. First, you can no longer remove, rinse and/or wipe down the internal chamber condensation from your last pot. You have to insert a papertowel into the new internal resevoir, scraping your hand on some internal parts that probably weren't meant to be messed with. They have likewise redesigned the basket, and it barely fits the standard coffee filters anymore, without crinkling and leaving grounds in your pot, and, hey, the internal water resevoir, where it has no business backwashing anyway. And god forbid you should try to make 5 cups in your 4-cup machine, for which there is plenty of room in the carafe, and in the resevoir, and which works well in many other 4-cup machines. My coffee maker lives on top of my microwave on a little shelf, by the toaster oven, because I have no counterspace for it. I have to lift it out some 10 inches, fill it up, insert the basket, and put it back on the microwave to process. I have mastered the art of moving a fully water loaded machine the little bit required. This one sloshes water everywhere. From the top of the machine? No! There's an engineered HOLE in the back of the reservoir to keep you from overfilling the chamber that last little bit. Water fountains everywhere from the center back part of the machine. I suppose I could put a piece of duct tape over it, but who wants duct tape in their coffee. Good God.

I will be replacing my machine shortly, then gleefully smashing my carafes on the driveway.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COFFEEMAKER!!

I had chosen this coffeemaker because of the design (goes with the other stainless kitchen appliances) and that it is made by Cuisinart, which I thought makes good appliances. This coffeemaker has worked "perfectly" for me only twice out of about 8 tries, after which I gave up. It's sitting (pretty) on my counter but will only be used as a back-up.

The carafe tends to dribble when the water is poured into the reservoir and when I pour the coffee! If you hold the carafe "just right" (I haven't quite figured out what that is) it won't dribble. Too much trouble! I want to just pour my coffee!!

Another drawback, IMO, is that the coffee basket is basically pointed so you can't set it on the counter to pour your coffee grounds into the filter because it tips onto its side. This is troublesome for me because I grind my beans and usually pour the grounds directly from the grinder. Twice I've had the grinds go over the sides of the filter and make a mess. I suppose I could've spooned the grinds in, but it's actually hard to spoon coffee grinds out of the grinder with the blade in the middle of things.

Another feature that's supposed to be an asset is that it automatically shuts off after 30 minutes. My pattern in the morning is to make coffee, take a shower, pour my first cup, do other things, and then come back for the 2nd cup, which I would like to be hot. Nope! This baby shuts off and the coffee cools down real fast!!

I have heard better reviews by friends of $20 Mr. Coffees!!

I am back to using my French press.

Jarden Consumer Solutions ND4-2 Black Replacement Decanter Review

The glass gets brittle over time and it eventually cracks in the sink. Buying a replacement decanter nearly costs the same as buying the whole coffee maker again, which is absurd. But I buy the replacement anyway to minimize waste.

Hamilton Beach Aroma Express 5 Cup Review

This coffee maker makes coffee, but it also makes a huge mess.It is practically impossible to pour the coffee into your cup without getting almost as much on the kitchen counter!I think it is the extra wide spout and the reason they give you 5 cups instead of 4 in the pot.This spillage also happens when pouring the water into the reservoir.Also, it you remove the carafe during brewing, it is not drip free.It will dribble and splash against the coffee maker.The coffee making is fairly quick and quiet.I prefer my old coffee maker that had a slide out basket and a pot that was easier to deal with.

Jerdon First Class CM430WD 4 Cup Coffee Maker, Black Review

The basic coffee maker is small and simple to use unlike most on the market that have programable functions.I would give it 5 stars except for the fact that I can't poor a cup of coffee without it dribbling down the pot on the counter.The seems to be a problem with many coffee makers.

Update:After using the coffee maker for a month I got so frustrated trying to pour without spilling that I called Jerdon.They claim there is nothing wrong but if I want to return the pot to them they will check it and send a replacement if they find a defect.They would not send a replacement first so I would be without a coffee maker.Jerdon customer service stinks.I have changed my review to 1 star.Do not buy a Jerdon coffee maker.

Hamilton Beach HDC500B 4 Cup Coffee Brewer Review

My old 4-cup Mr. Coffee was a decent little coffeemaker and it lasted for about three years before it started to give me trouble. Technically it still works but the coffee it brews is only warm, not hot.So I decided it was time for a new machine.

I did a lot of research, and the fact of the matter is that there just aren't many good quality 4-cup coffeemakers on the market.I researched the models from Mr. Coffee, Cuisinart, and Black & Decker, and none of them got particularly good reviews.I went to local stores and played with the display models and all of them felt very light, flimsy, and cheap.Even the $40 Cuisinart was featherweight and felt like it would fall apart at any moment.

I've always had good luck with Hamilton Beach products, so when I found this one online, I had a good feeling about it.I did some more research and found that this particular model is used in hotels all over the country.That seemed like a good sign.Commercial grade products are usually built to a higher standard than consumer grade stuff.

So I ordered it, and sure enough, it's a major step above the 4-cup machines made by the other manufacturers.Even though it's made mostly of plastic, it is heavy and stable and definitely won't tip over easily. The power cord is heavy grade and has a 3-prong plug.The on/off switch has a nice spring action and seems durable.

Due to the fact that these are made for hotel rooms, there are picture-based instructions in white ink on top of the coffeemaker.If you are very concerned about appearances, this might bother you.It doesn't bother me.The #1 thing I'm concerned about is how the coffee tastes... and with that in mind...

It tastes great!It's very hot, much hotter than my old Mr. Coffee.But the water isn't TOO hot, so you don't need to worry about it making the coffee bitter and over-extracted.

I only have two complaints, and they are relatively minor: when you're finished brewing coffee and you open the basket holder to remove the grounds and filter, a small amount of water falls out and splashes onto the warming plate and onto the counter.It's not a huge amount of water -- maybe a teaspoon -- but it does do this every time I brew coffee.Just something to be aware of; have a paper towel handy and it's not a problem. My other complaint is that there is no way of knowing how much water is in the reservoir. Usually they have a little window or some other indicator, but this unit doesn't have either. Mildly annoying, but not a huge issue and obviously doesn't affect the coffee itself.

All in all, I'm very pleased with this coffeemaker and would recommend it to anyone who is searching for a good quality 4-cup machine.

Mr. Coffee VB12 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Review

If there were awards for horrible design this coffee maker would be at the top of the list.After getting this as a replacement for an older Mr. Coffeebrewer that finally died, I was horrified by the list of "things they shouldn't have done."

1) The design of the plunger mechanism that allows you to remove the carafe before brewing is completed has, as its main element, a ball that hangs down from the basket and is connected to the plunger inside said basket.The ball is pushed up by a hemispherical lump in the coffee pot's lid, and when the carafe is removed the ball drops and the plunger seals the basket.Sounds good, huh?NOPE!The ball can be bumped any time you're removing or inserting the pot, so if you don't pay very careful attention you end up with coffee streaming down the sides of the pot and onto the burner, and let's face it, before my first cup of coffee I'm not paying careful attention to ANYTHING!Even if you put the pot in straight, if you have it slightly angled in respect to the horizontal you'll hit this damn valve.The old design, consisting of a lever that activated as the pot hit the back wall of the maker was fool-proof, whereas this one is fool-designed.

2) The lid that covers the water reservoir has been joined with the lid that covers the brew basket, and this leads to issues as well.There is now a swing arm that rotates over the basket (which is removable for cleaning, the only positive design element they kept), and this thing delivers the heated water in jets that splashes the coffee grounds up onto the lid.That's no big deal, since the lid is cleanable, but the grounds also end up on the portion of the lid that's over the reservoir, and they eventually get washed down into the reservoir itself by the refluxing water.Thus, you end up having to swab out nearly the entire apparatus, something I've given up on in the hopes that the damn thing will clog with coffee grounds and I'll be forced to replace it.The lid itself is of a poor design, and if you lift it slowly while there's condensation on the inside water runs down the inside, overruns the channels they built to control its flow, and all over the counter.Nice.Opening the lid swiftly tends to minimize this, but also maximizes how much of the lid-bound coffee grounds are subsequently washed into the tank.

3) The lid to the carafe itself is another source of annoyance, as the lip of the lid that covers the pot rim also channels water condensation (and it's a pot of hot coffee, when isn't there going to be condensate?) onto the outside of the pot every time you pour a cup.At least it's clean water, but it still makes a mess and you better pour your cup over an area that can get wet without issues.

These issues cover pretty much all of the elements of the coffee maker, unfortunately, and there are few things about this maker that are positive (in its defense it does actually brew coffee).Pay a few extra bucks and buy one that won't make you approach your morning cuppa with trepidation rather than anticipation.The design guys at Mr. Coffee should have their chairs taken away until they can come up with something better!

Whoever made this coffee maker is brilliant.Though, like most brilliant people, they assumed that everyone thinks the way they do. A drawback to this product is that you cannot open or close the filter basket when the coffee pot is in place on the element. You just have to remember the pot is the last to go into place and the first to come off. This unit makes great coffee.The parts go in the dishwasher.It looks great on the kitchen counter... the design is exceptional. I am delighted with my purchase.

Jerdon First Class CM21B 4 Cup Coffee Maker, Thermal Carafe, Black Review

I had this model under the Black and Decker brand for over 10 years and was very satisfied with it. My favorite point to this coffee maker was the insulated carafe. It kept the coffee hot enough until I finished the pot. It needed no burner to keep on or over-cook the coffee. The carafe's best feature was that it poured out without dribbling all over ( something most all coffee makers fail at ).

When the switch finally did break, I was given a gift of the Cusinart 4-cup cofeemaker with a stainless steel carafe. What a piece of junk it was. The carafe poured more coffee on the couter than the in the cup. Also, the warmer burned the coffee in the carafe ( YUK ). The Cuisinart lasted a few months and then broke ( YEAH - I could get rid of it without insulting the gift giver ).

I searched Amazon and found this Jerdon model which was the same as the Black and Decker which well-served me so many years. Of course, I bought it. When it arrived I could not have been more exicted - it was like Christmas morning to me.

The only difference from my original was the coffee grounds basket. The original had a cone-shaped basket, with a filter. The cone shaped filter does make a little better flavored coffee, with less grounds ( fortunatly I kept my old one for some reason and use it ).

I highly recommend this pot if you are looking for a small coffee maker.It works and the price is right. My only dislike is that it's not made in USA.
