Breville BES400XL Ikon 15-Bar-Pump Espresso Machine Review

Breville BES400XL Ikon 15-Bar-Pump Espresso MachineUpdated:New rating 2 stars due to longevity issues.

We've owned 3 or 4 different espresso makers over the years, paying big bucks for some. This was the first that delivered for us day in and day out... at least at first. It lasted a lot longer than most until it failed about 14 months after buying it.We have replaced it with the Le Cube Nespresso 180 espresso maker (see our other review there)

Pro:
+ Consistent brew with a great flavor
+ Creates a good (but not best) coffee crema, unlike many other brands
+ A good solid feel to it, does not feel cheap or flimsy to us
+ Overflow tray is huge (and much appreciated I might add)
+ Comes with a stainless frothing cup and scoop for coffee (the other end of the scoop doubles as a coffee tamper too)
+ Seems to handle/tolerate a variety of grinds, fine and course, something other brands seemed to hate
+ Very easy to see remaining water/water level at a glance, thank you!
+ For those who put their appliances away instead of leaving them on the counter: the power plug has a thumb-sized hole in it to more easily (and more safely) pull the plug.I've never seen this feature before.
+ Overflow tray that sits under your cup has a novel "full" indicator/float that pops up when the tray is full and needs to be emptied
+ Comes with espresso cups

Con:
- The clear water container a little awkward with the frothing wand and/or when the coffee holder is inserted in the machine. We find that these items are in the way and need to be moved to slide the water container out of the unit.Probably a picky comment that should not detract from your impression of this gem.
- Water container also has some awkward angles, complicating cleaning.
- Overflow tray "full" indicator noted in the "pro" section above only warns you when the tray is absolutely full with no margin for error, making for an interesting and exciting trip to the sink
- Lasted longer than other models, but ultimately failed shortly after the warranty ended

Neutral:
x Priming/heat-up process, while fast, was very different from our other models. Not an issue, but you need to get used to it.

Bottom line: no longer recommended due to low quality of internal mechanism(s).

Proctor Silex 44301 BrewStation 10-Cup Dispensing Coffeemaker Review

Proctor Silex 44301 BrewStation 10-Cup Dispensing CoffeemakerWhat I love about this brewstation is that everything that could get dirty and over time, unsightly, is readily washable. With a coffee maker the hot plate usually wears away, and the coffee stains, no matter how diligent you are, don't come clean. Only a few parts of a coffeemaker can be cleaned thoroughly. However, with the brewstation the coffee tank lifts off and can be washed at will, as can the filter and the drip tray. Cosmetically speaking this is really great. My husband is having a hard time getting used to this because he misses the carafe. He also finds it big. Well, our old coffeemaker was for 5 cups and this is for 10, so of course it's bigger. I on the other hand love this precisely because there IS no carafe. No breaking, no replacing, no cleaning. The size is fine and the machine is compact. As to the coffee it makes: We haven't yet made a perfect cup of coffee, which isn't the machine's fault, but ours. We bought a grinder along with the brewstation and so we're using two new products at the same time. I can tell you that the coffee is quickly made, stays hot and not bitter. With a couple of more attempts I think we'll master a really, really good cup of coffee. I do have one quibble with this machine. I think the water level indicator should be on the water reservoir and not in the front. However, this is just my preference and why it got 4 stars and not 5.Overall, a really terrific product.

UPDATE 3/17/06Well, my husband has gotten over the "I miss the carafe, and this is too big" situation. I adore this coffeemaker
and we have made and continue to make truly excellent coffee. We like coffee strong without being bitter and I have found that for 10 cups I use 10-11 full scoops of coffee. All the visible parts are pristine. The basket is clean, although the inside reservoir is stained. It's time for a cleaning. All in all we're both very happy with this and certainly recommend it highly.

Technivorm Moccamaster CDT Coffee Maker - Chrome Review

Technivorm Moccamaster CDT Coffee Maker - ChromePlease get your coffee and sit though this review, it's a bit long.So many people and places rate this as the best drip coffee maker because of the ideal brew temperature and brew drip time.I spent more time on this review because I want to justify the expense of this coffeemaker. The bottom line is that to get the really best tasting coffee out of this expensive coffee maker, you may have to spend just a bit of time fussing with it.This includes finding the right amount of coffee to add, using filtered room temperature water, and I found as some people suggest that if you leave the brew basket top off and stir the coffee grinds during brewing (at least for the first minute when the water has filled the basket and the grinds are swimming in water) , you get even better tasting coffee (better flavor extraction). Also, unless I buy another thermal carafe specifically the Thermos Nissan 51 Ounce Stainless Steel Carafe, I should drink all the brewed coffee within the first hour. The included carafe just does not maintain the coffee at a decent temperature for more than a half hour, especially if you use the brew through lid.If the thermal carafe is to replace the need for a heating pad to keep the coffee warm, then I am disappointed that the carafe can't keep great brewed coffee hot for very long.

Note that the CDT and its original brother the KBT 741 leave ½ cup of water in the heating chamber after brewing. If you dry out your Technivorm (pour out any excess water and dry the reservoir) like I do, then you may wish to add a ½ cup of water to the chamber when brewing to compensate.Otherwise, it's only your first batch of coffee that may be a bit stronger.

The instructions recommend using fresh tap water (I use filtered water from a carbon block system). This does result in a brew temperature of 195-200°F degrees as measured using my Thermapen. As an experiment, I reused the heated water from the carafe to brew coffee (the water has not yet cooled to room temperature).Don't do it.This seems to confuse the Techivorm's heating element's thermostat and the brewing temperature drops to around 180°F degrees instead if the 190 to 200°F degrees if I start with room temperature water. And why did I reuse heated water? Why waste water? The instructions recommend "preheating the thermal carafe", likely so that the temperature of the brewed coffee does not cool below 190°F as it fills the thermal carafe.

What do I like about the CDT?
The coffee brewed from the Technivorm is more palatable so that I do not need to adulterate the coffee with any sweetener or creamer (if you use decent coffee beans).I don't have a connoisseur's palate but I also like to consider that I don't have a dead one either.Even when I brewed carafes of coffee using 10 year old Maxwell House coffee (year 2000 stash) I can tell a difference in taste between it from a CDT and my other coffee maker a Cuisinart DCC-450BK 4-Cup Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Carafe, Black. The coffee from the Cuisinart is harsher and bitter more likely because of the 170°F brew temperature although the brew time is about the same as the CDT (5 minutes).I wouldn't have believed the taste difference had I not brewed using both coffee makers. So if I use filtered water (at room temperature) and fresher quality coffee beans I will get better tasting brewed coffee from the Technivorm.
The very open reservoir design makes adding water into the reservoir a breeze (no one should make a mess pouring water into the reservoir).
The CDT's reservoir`s round shape makes it very easy for me to dry the reservoir with a kitchen towel.I wasn't sure about the KBT's square shape and keeping it as clean. The only difference between the CDT and the KBT 741 is the shape of the reservoir (and the added height of the CDT's reservoir to keep the same capacity as the KBT 741).
The CDT comes with a 4 foot long three prong power cord.I don't have any problems plugging in my CDT anywhere in my kitchen.

What are my disappointments?
The included thermal carafe is my big disappointment. While I know that the carafe is designed to be poured using a lid (whether the included lid or the optional brew through lid, both which work okay), how difficult would it have been to stamp a small V-shaped spout on the carafe? It would help me pour my coffee into my Thermos Nissan 16-Ounce Stainless-Steel Insulated Bottle without spilling hot (and precious) coffee down the side of the thermos (yeah, I did have the carafe's top in place). After I brew my coffee and screw on the top onto the thermal carafe, the outside of the thermal carafe is about ten degrees warmer than my kitchen counter: this carafe is loosing too much heat! The 198-200°F degree coffee drops about 25° degrees after an hour with the regular lid or 10°F loss per half hour with the brew through lid.Oh, and this is where I preheat the carafe with hot water! The carafe just looses too much heat.Maybe Technivorm could have Thermos Nissan make their thermal carafes?I have a travel size Thermos Nissan that I use for nursing my coffee at work.Even up to eight hours after brewing I still enjoy my coffee's hot to warm temperature (without preheating)! The Technivorm carafe has no information on where it is made.

UPDATE:March 8, 2010:I contacted the seller complaining about my carafe's inability to keep the coffee hot.I was sent a replacement carafe under warranty (no charge).BIG DIFFERENCE.The carafe looses about only six to seven degrees per hour instead of the 25° with my original carafe (with the regular lid) and about 12°F when using the brew thru lid.So my coffee is still hot for at least four hours after brewing. So make sure your carafe is not defective by testing it.The box the replacement carafe came in says it's made in "Amerongen-Holland".

PROS:
The coffee brewed from the Technivorm is more palatable so that I do not need to adulterate the coffee with any sweetener or creamer (assuming you use decent coffee beans) and filtered water.

The large reservoir opening is easy to add water without spilling and also make it easy to dry with a kitchen towel.

It comes with a 4 foot power cord so you should be able to plug your CDT nearly anywhere in your kitchen.

Bottom line.Yes, I will keep it.Even with its faults', the Technivorm still makes it easy to make a great tasting cup of coffee, especially if you drink your coffee black (I've become a black coffee convert).

CONS:
The CDT (and KBT 741) leaves ½ cup of water in the heating chamber. You may wish to add a ½ cup of water to compensate if you empty and dry out your Technivorm after each use.

For the cost, it needs to come with a better thermal carafe that can keep coffee hot for a longer time (make sure you test yours: it should only lose about 6-7°F an hour with the regular lid.And can Technivorm at least stamp a pouring beak on the carafe for even easier pouring, especially when pouring into a travel thermos?

Product Description:
There are hundreds of options out there for a coffeemaker. From high end machines that cost $500 to cheap throwaway models that can be had for $25, there's a machine to suit everybody. But there's only one machine that suits us, and that's the Technivorm Moccamaster. The reason is simple. Most machines out there have too many plastic parts, unnecessary electronic gadgetry, and they simply make bad coffee. This solid, simple, and mechanically perfect coffee maker has been designed and manufactured in the Netherlands since 1964. With good reason it is only one of two coffeemakers that are certified by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA). The Moccamaster does not come equipped with flashing lights, programmable software, or a built-in grinder. It boasts a simple on/off switch that starts the brewing cycle and a three-position switch on the filter basket that controls the flow of coffee into the carafe. The Technivorm makes rich, flavorful coffee and is built to last decades. See for yourself why the Technivorm is such a great coffee maker!

Mr. Coffee FTXSS43GTF programmable 12-cup coffee maker. Review

Mr. Coffee FTXSS43GTF programmable 12-cup coffee maker.I have never been one to spend a lot of money on coffeemakers in the past but I thought I would spend a little more this time and see if I could find a better quality one. I have not been disappointed. The FTXSS43 does a very good job of making a fine cup of coffee. The features I like best are the beep alert to let you know when the coffee is ready (which has a switch to turn it off if you don't want to hear it), the improved spout that doesn't drip when you pour a cup, the timer to start the coffeemaker automatically in the morning, the adjustable heat control for the warming plate, the LCD analog clock which puts out a pleasant glow and acts as a nightlight in the kitchen at night, the fact that the clock automatically turns into a timer to let you know how long the coffee has been made, and the most important, the good tasting coffee. The pot takes what I would call an average amount of time to brew and the stainless steel exterior is attractive and very easy to clean.

Black & Decker CM5050 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Review

Black & Decker CM5050 12-Cup Programmable CoffeemakerThe coffee maker itself works great but the carafe is absolutely the worst I have ever had.You need to have a kitchen towel under it or you had better pour your coffee over the sink.I have resorted to using a pitcher to fill the water reservoir instead of the carafe to avoid water all over the place but what do you do once the coffee is made?Anyway--I would not recommend this coffee maker.Definitely a waste of $50.00!!!!

Sensio 90017 Bella Professional 12-Cup Coffeemaker Review

Sensio 90017 Bella Professional 12-Cup CoffeemakerIn a Nut Shell - Has12 cups capacity, 24 hour clock/timer, brew pause, programmable shut off, gold tone filter, heavy, and die-cast aluminum.
Comment - Even tho I have a pretty collection of coffee makers, I wanted to try 'something different', so I opted for Sensio's Bella Professional line.
* The Good -
1. Brews an Excellent pot of your favorite Java (kirkland's colombian supreme).
2. Brewing Time is Very Good compared to others I have used before and would compare it to the all-time favorite Krups line.
It's a Top Loader for both your Java and H2O and has the much sought after Radial Spray Head, which ensures an even coffee extraction. I strongly recommend using Filtered H2O
for all of your Brewing needs and using Reverse osmosis seems to be the best Option in "Hard-Waters" country, like here.
3. 1 year later, it's still working but the Tropics cause much deterioration and is taking it's toll.

* The Bad -
1. Expensive: Over 100 hundred Bucks + S/H Charges add up quickly.
2. Clock is very SMALL, totally worthless, as it does not have any Numerical Characters, like a regular clock, just 'subdued' lines, nice Blue glow though.
A much larger Round or rectangular 'clock & Coffee Function' window would have greatly improve it.
3. Using the Decanter to fill a Cup, results in Dripping coffee all over the counter, unless you Hold the decanter at a Perfect 20 to 25 degree Angle & Axis, which is difficult when it's Full.
This is mostly due to the way that the decanter's Flip-top is finished-cut at an angle. They should have looked at a mr coffee, crusineart or krups.
4. The Pause n' Serve function is limited to 2 Quick cups only, otherwise, it will start to 'overflow' at the filter/basket, which can be a mess!
5. The Heating Decanter area gets grungy quickly from the spilled coffee and needs constant cleaning, as opposed to the Krups.
6. The Front Face Stainless has developed a 'smudged' appearance, not the Highly Polished finish that I expected, while this in itself does not affect the Function,
aesthetics are an important factor, for me.
7. It's sold and labled as a 'Professional' coffeemaker, which it isn't and it's definitely NOT 'bella (beautiful) either!

30 Cup Polished Aluminum Coffee Urn (15-0265) Category: Coffee Makers and Urns Review

30 Cup Polished Aluminum Coffee Urn Category: Coffee Makers and UrnsI bought this item based on the picture. The picture displays a Stainless Steel lid and see through glass reader as to whether or not the coffe is ready. What I got was an item that was a regalware but had a black lid and no glass reader. This is false advertising! The picture of what I selected and paid almost 75.00 for including shipping and handling was no where near the same quality of what was received. Then they will only pay for returns if they made the error.Next Day Gourmet has made a serious error in the advertisement of this product but takes no responsibility for paying on the return. This is not a company I would buy from again and find it very disappointing for all the effort I have had to go through due to this companies poor policies.

Krups KM8105 12-Cup Die-Cast Programmable Coffeemaker Review

Krups KM8105 12-Cup Die-Cast Programmable CoffeemakerI really wanted to love this pot, because of its looks and the fact that it did brew really good coffee. But it had annoying issues I could not get over. The carafe is designed like a dribble glass.Nomatter how careful we were, we could not pour from a full carafe or an almost empty carafe without spilling. Second, while using coffee ground specifically for an electric drop pot, we found that the machine consistently made a mess when brewing a full pot - the grounds would overflow the basket & be pushed up through the steam vents on the top of the machine. Also the machine I received did not support the advertised 2 automatic settings feature, even though the Krups box listed this as well as the Amazon add.The manual did not list this feature and the simple and intuitive programming menu didn't allow setting more than one start time.

I was grateful for Amazon's return policy, which made it easy to send this disappointing machine back.

Krups KM4055 Precision 12-Cup Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe Review

Krups KM4055 Precision 12-Cup Coffeemaker with Glass CarafeI believe that Krupps Coffeemakers make the best coffee.Mine was over ten year old and needed replacement.I didn't like the all metal look of the Coffeemakers on Amazon and was glad when they came out with this black one.It truly makes good coffee and it looks nice too.My main complaint is the water fill tank in the back is small and hard to hit the right spot without spilling (see photo). This is why I didn't give it five stars. The level indicator is also rather hard to see, and I have to guess as to how full it is.It seems like all Krupps Carafe's dribble a bit, but I am used to that by now.I still really like it, even with it's faults.

Black & Decker SDC740 SpaceMaker 12-Cup Coffeemaker, White Review

Black & Decker SDC740 SpaceMaker 12-Cup Coffeemaker, WhiteI bought one of these a few months back as I need all the counter space I can get.It is perfect for my kitchen and I love the space I got.It makes a quick pot of coffee and the temp is just right.
I think the only couple downsides I see are that the place where you pour the water is a small hole, easy to miss. Also, for some reason, the clock is screwy. It is slow and it looses about an hour every day. Finally, the pot on mine broke after only a month and I cannot find a replacement for it.

Coffee lovers no longer have to give up valuable counter space to accommodate a clunky coffeemaker. This unit easily installs under a cabinet, keeping work surfaces clear for food prep and other everyday tasks. More than just a space-saving convenience, the coffeemaker comes with an array of user-friendly features for brewing up to 12 cups of great-tasting coffee. Its clock and timer allow for programming the unit to begin brewing at a later time--great for wake-up coffee in the morning or having a pot ready to serve with dessert without having to get up from the table half way through dinner. For those eager for that first sip, the unit's Sneak-A-Cup interrupt function pauses the brewing cycle to allow for pouring a quick cup midbrew. Coffee brews directly into the unit's Perfect Pour glass carafe, which provides a generous stay-cool handle and a drip-free spout. Krups KT4065 10-Cup Thermal Coffeemaker Review

Krups KT4065 10-Cup Thermal CoffeemakerWe have used Krups thermal carafe coffee makers for years, needing to replace them every few years because of hard water problems. We bought a Zojirushi BD-15 and it leaked water from the reservoir like a sieve, from the base of the unit.We then bought this Krups and were disappointed as soon as we started to use it.First, the lid of the coffee maker pops open to expose the basket and the fill chamber, which is a small opening in the back right corner. This isn't so bad by itself, except that you can't fill the reservoir with the carafe because the lid sufficiently obstructs the fill opening, particularly if you use the carafe which needs to be almost fully inverted because of its design. We had to use a separate container for this step. The opening of the carafe is so narrow (2.5") you can't put a hand through it to clean it.

The clincher was that the coffee maker overflowed onto the counter as it was brewing (not from the top of the basket, but from the top of the carafe).Even with careful positioning of the carafe, the coffee would not enter the carafe without some cajoling. This was a hit or miss proposition and required us to watch carefully. We are going to send this model back. They should bring back the Model 229, which was a much better design.

Mr. Coffee VB12 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Review

Mr. Coffee VB12 12-Cup Coffeemaker,If there were awards for horrible design this coffee maker would be at the top of the list. After getting this as a replacement for an older Mr. Coffeebrewer that finally died, I was horrified by the list of "things they shouldn't have done."

1) The design of the plunger mechanism that allows you to remove the carafe before brewing is completed has, as its main element, a ball that hangs down from the basket and is connected to the plunger inside said basket. The ball is pushed up by a hemispherical lump in the coffee pot's lid, and when the carafe is removed the ball drops and the plunger seals the basket.Sounds good, huh?NOPE!The ball can be bumped any time you're removing or inserting the pot, so if you don't pay very careful attention you end up with coffee streaming down the sides of the pot and onto the burner, and let's face it, before my first cup of coffee I'm not paying careful attention to ANYTHING!Even if you put the pot in straight, if you have it slightly angled in respect to the horizontal you'll hit this damn valve. The old design, consisting of a lever that activated as the pot hit the back wall of the maker was fool-proof, whereas this one is fool-designed.

2) The lid that covers the water reservoir has been joined with the lid that covers the brew basket, and this leads to issues as well. There is now a swing arm that rotates over the basket (which is removable for cleaning, the only positive design element they kept), and this thing delivers the heated water in jets that splashes the coffee grounds up onto the lid. That's no big deal, since the lid is cleanable, but the grounds also end up on the portion of the lid that's over the reservoir, and they eventually get washed down into the reservoir itself by the refluxing water. Thus, you end up having to swab out nearly the entire apparatus, something I've given up on in the hopes that the damn thing will clog with coffee grounds and I'll be forced to replace it.The lid itself is of a poor design, and if you lift it slowly while there's condensation on the inside water runs down the inside, overruns the channels they built to control its flow, and all over the counter.Nice.Opening the lid swiftly tends to minimize this, but also maximizes how much of the lid-bound coffee grounds are subsequently washed into the tank.

3) The lid to the carafe itself is another source of annoyance, as the lip of the lid that covers the pot rim also channels water condensation (and it's a pot of hot coffee, when isn't there going to be condensate?) onto the outside of the pot every time you pour a cup.At least it's clean water, but it still makes a mess and you better pour your cup over an area that can get wet without issues.

These issues cover pretty much all of the elements of the coffee maker, unfortunately, and there are few things about this maker that are positive (in its defense it does actually brew coffee).Pay a few extra bucks and buy one that won't make you approach your morning cuppa with trepidation rather than anticipation. The design guys at Mr. Coffee should have their chairs taken away until they can come up with something better!

Bunn 6101 Easy Pour Decaf Replacement Decanter, Orange Review

Bunn 6101 Easy Pour Decaf Replacement Decanter, OrangeDishwasher safe yet not for use with "Rinse Aid"... For the home user this makes for "Not really dishwasher safe" or at least it does for me. So I have used this pot every day for about a month and it has started a slow leak at the seam between the steel and plastic. This is the second Bunn plastic/steel decanter I have bought that leaks in this way. Poor design I guess.

So here is the deal. I am very unhappy with this pot and another just like it. If two out of two do this for me in less than a year, chances are they will all leak under the same conditions. I personally prefer the long life of the glass decanter over the this plastic junk. I am sure I could get replacement but I am just sick of the effort.
This purchase was depressing.

Mr. Coffee ISTX95 10-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black/Stainless Review

Mr. Coffee ISTX95 10-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black/StainlessOk, I nearly was pushed away by the bad reviews on this appliance but decided to give it a try.I bought it about a month ago & I really like it.

I have to start by saying that I am religious about my coffee.I only drink it if it is good coffee & prepared well.I grind my beans & I only use fresh coffee.I am very picky about every aspect of coffee drinking, it isn't a habit for me but rather an experience.

With that said, I have 'tested' each of the problems mentioned in the reviews & here is what I found:

Leaking & overflowing - I have never had that problem after weeks of use, I am not sure why one of the posters had this problem, maybe they overfilled it.

Coffee grains in coffee - Nope, no problem here, the coffee is perfectly filtered with a paper filter.I haven't seen a grain of coffee yet!

Coffee not staying warm - I find that if I keep the lid shut that the coffee stays nice & warm for over 2 hours.

Hard to fill - Yes, this coffeemaker is a bit difficult to fill but as someone else suggested, I just use my sink sprayer to fill it & it is a breeze (thanks for the suggestion!).

Doesn't pour quickly - Yes this is a bit of a slow pourer but I LOVE the caraffe so much that I won't complain about that at all.Patience is a virtue!

Someone else complained that they couldn't clean the caraffe. It does have a small opening but I have found no reason to scrub it (coffee doesn't burn on the bottom like a burner coffeemaker).I rinse it out with some soap & warm water each day & it is fine.It would be easy enough to use a bottle brush as needed.

At first I was disappointed with the strength of the coffee (I am a filter-press & espresso girl & I love it strong). So, I started adding quite a bit more coffee than what was suggested. Then one day, I forgot to put the carbon filter in.As a result, the coffee was very STRONG.So, from that point on, I used the 'regular' strength level and tossed my carbon filter into the garbage. It absolutely isn't needed, I didn't notice any change in flavor. So, bypass that silly expense!

The main reason why I was intrigued by this coffeemaker is the caraffe.I love the portability.I can take it outside or into the living room to read a book or to the computer, etc.The coffee tastes just as good an hour later & there isn't the burnt taste you get from the burner-type coffeemakers.

The clock & timers are self-explanitory & work well for me.

The coffeemaker is very nice looking & looks great on my counter.

I would recommend this coffeemaker to anyone who would enjoy the benefits & portability of the caraffe. It makes great coffee & has nice styling.

Black & Decker SDC740B SpaceMaker 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Black Review

Black & Decker SDC740B SpaceMaker 12-Cup Coffeemaker, BlackI've had a few different black and decker under cabinet coffee pots over the years and they were overdue for an update on the overall look of the product.I give the basic design 5 stars in that, the look is more current and if you have had the older version, you do get more noticable increase of counter usability space with this model. On the other hand, there are some annoyances with this new version.(I'm keeping the coffee maker)

For the overall rating that I provided of 3 stars, here is why.

Installation Template... JOKE
Missing measurement legends so was not usable.I held the coffer maker up to the cabinet to determine where I wanted it to be installed, measured from a few places on the coffee pot and cabinet and used the hanging bracket of the coffee maker as the template (pencil through screw holes).

Installation Hardware... screws wrong size
This is a design problem in concept, while having a bag of a bunch of different sizes solves the problem, or in my case, a hacksaw solved the problem. The ultimate reason is that there is no gap between the end of the screw when installed and the coffee pot to slide on.In older models if the screw went into the nut and came out the otherside by a 1/4 of an inch it was fine.In this model the screw must not go much past being flush to the end of the nut.... which is nuts!

Water Reservior... nice idea, but has challenges
a) Since the reservoir has such a large surface area, providing an exact amount of water is not easy. When you set it on the counter and fill it, it doesn't sit flat, etc, etc.
b) The top of the reservior is removable in order to clean it out. When you have the water around 10 cups, or more likely 12 cups, this lid doesn't seal the water in very good for a short walk from the sink to the coffee maker. Not a big deal, not a lot of dripping, but you have to pay attention to it.

Sneak a cup...Twice now we have had coffee overflow out of the filter area. This was due to the sneak a cup braket not designed very well. When you put the coffee pot into the unit, it pushes on a little handle/arm... barely. This braket opens/closes a door on the bottom of the filter. If the coffee pot is slightly off being place in properly, plan on a nice clean up of coffee on the counter.I added a little bit of bulk to the face of the bracket and I think it will solve the problem.

Removing top bracket... Geez, one of the first steps in the installation is to remove the top mounting bracket/piece from the top of the coffee maker... OMG, my wife and I were playing tug-a-war to get that dumb thing off. This should NOT come pre-connected to the coffee maker.

Handling of Water reservior and Filter.Neither have a nice handle or way to grip them. The filter part is more awkward to hold than the resourvoir, but it should be looked at.

I know I listed several things, but from the things listed, I don't think they are show-stoppers, I'll be keeping the coffee maker.

Other highlights include a removable filter basket, a removable water reservoir with an illuminated water-level indicator window, a nonstick heating plate, cord storage, and automatic shut-off for peace of mind. The coffeemaker measures approximately 12-3/5 by 12 by 15-1/2 inches.

Toastess TFC-1 Personal-Size 1-Cup Coffeemaker, White Review

Toastess TFC-1 Personal-Size 1-Cup Coffeemaker, WhiteWhat a failure!

Seemed just right for a simple way to make a quick single brewed cup of coffee. Small, low profile and uses little space on the counter. The science is so simple and established that I figured there could be no problems.

Wrong, it cannot deliver more than 6 ounces of water through the system, even though the water well holds 12 ounces. If you drink more than six ounces (smaller than a juice glass) of coffee, this is not the unit for you.

The well is filled with 12 ounces and the machine starts to brew. Good. Then, about half way through the process (VERY slow) it simply stops. I used my own 12oz mugwhich fits well but the pot seems pooped and just keeps on heating the water without delivering it through the plumbing. I have "plunged" the small water hole in the bottom if the well with no results.

I've tried it five times, wasting coffee and time and it simply doesn't want to work.

I'm planning to use it for a planter. Small cut wildflowers will look nice. For coffee, I'm going to a real working product.

It doesn't pay to return this item because the time and postage will make it too expensive.

This is junk, pure and simple.

Black & Decker DLX1050B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe, Black Review

Black & Decker DLX1050B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe, BlackI picked out this coffee maker because of a reasonable price and was a recommended best buy in Consumers Report magazine. I have only had a week or so and can't address long term reliability. What it does do is NOT DRIP! It does not drip when pouring from the glass pot to the water reservoir or when pouring coffee into a cup. I do NOT have to be extra careful when pouring. It also stops the coffee flow from the filter as soon as I pull the pot out and does NOT drip on the warmer. Again, do NOT have to be extra careful here. It also does NOT leak condensation out of the water reservoir top when lifting the lid. The condensation on the reservoir lid drips back into the reservoir when the lid is lifted. The time and delay brew functions ARE easy to set and work fine. The coffee brewed fairly quickly and did not overflow the filter to allow grounds into the pot. So far, I am very happy with a product that someone spent some time making user friendly and practical. This is a well engineered inexpensive product.
