Cold Drip Coffee and Tea Maker, 8-Cup Review

My brother gave me this as a Christmas present and I've had it for over a year.It makes great coffee and looks wonderful on my kitchen countertop.Unfortunately, I banged one of the glass parts and cracked it last week.It still works, but I'm looking for a replacement piece before the crack spreads too much.

Avoid this if you need something that isn't easy to break, but otherwise it's really cool!

Update: I called the company that made this coffee maker today.They are sending a replacement part via priority mail.Hence the 5 stars.Great coffee, great look, great customer service.

This coffee maker is gorgeous and would make a lovely addition to your kitchen. Ice and water are placed in the top jar, and by regulating the dripping water through the valve in the center, coffee is steeped and ends up in the carafe at the bottom of the tower. Through a unique 3 hour process using pure ice water, ice drip coffee produces a unique flavor not found in regular brewed coffee. It's easy to use. Toddy Brewing Container with Handle Review

I love this coffee maker!We make a batch and it lasts nearly all week.Everyone can make it as strong or weak as they want.Start with milk, add concentrate and flavoring, microwave and whip it for my every morning latte!Also great for blended drinks when you want something cold.No coffee waste.No pouring part of pot down the drain!And with less acid, finicky stomachs seem to tolerate it.Added benefit:the grounds go out in a big batch for the plants. I had one of these years ago, before they had handles.The handle is a big plus.I've ordered 3 for various friends who like the concentrate.Used the concentrate on a recent camping trip.So much better than dry instant coffee!!!I recommend buying an extra plug and filter to have on hand.

Toddy Rubber Stoppers (12-pack) Review

Not a romantic or exciting purchase, but utilitarian and much needed. I couldn't find the right size stopper in my local stores so I turned to the internet. Good buy! Just throw it in your cart when you get something else for free shipping.
*And yes, they fit. They are not made of cardboard. No spontaneous combustions yet.

Toddy Maker Replacement Glass Decanter Review

Someone purchased the toddy maker for us as a gift to make cold processed coffee. I wound up using just this decanter to keep in the fridge with juice or water. It's a really lovely piece and comes with a lid (not shown in the photo, but it does come with one). Finding a simple, functional glass pitcher with a lid seems difficult to find these days. This piece does the trick.

Toddy Filters (2-pack) Review

The Toddy filter is a key component of the Toddy Coldbrew Coffee system. Many people can't believe that a simple thing like coldbrewing your coffee would result in that different a tasting cup of coffee, but it's true! Each time I hand someone a cup of my coldbrewed coffee, I get another convert. Now, it is possible to coldbrew coffee without the Toddy system, but it's a lot messier and time consuming. With Toddy, it's quick, clean and easy. Rather than sit there, filtering a jug of coffee using a regular filter, the Toddy does it for me, making coldbrew something I enjoy year around. It's always in my fridge ready to go. The filters are also reusable, meaning it'sless wasteful. Two filters alone can last you quite a few months!

Toddy Cold Brew System Review

This thing makes the most wonderful coffee.I am an admitted coffee snob but was suffering from the acid in the coffee I drank.It all ended with this set up.It makes great coffee that is so darn much easier on your system.
It is not without its minor flaws, however.It is a bit more expensive to make coffee this way.Clean up is a bitdifficult.The rim of the plastic upper part could be an inch taller.
I am going to tell how I approached each of those problems, it seems to work well for me.
In using the full pound of coffee and 72 ounces of water called for (It soaks for 12 hours per instructions) the top container is filled to the very brim...water and grounds are easily spilled over the top when pressing the grounds down (again per instructions) to assure uniform wetness.
I now use about 75% of a pound of coffee and 90% of the water called for. I place a #4 basket filter over the round Toddy filter to make for a better flow at the end of the process.I leave it all for about 30 hours and it is at least as strong as that obtained by following the instructions provided.Remember...this is not an exact science!I get more cups of coffee per pound this way and also have much easier clean up and less mess in the making.With the coffee and water mixture about an inch below the top of the container, one simply does not make the spills normally encountered.
When done, I let the concentrate run into the carafe per instructions, but then press the outsides of the grounds and then the center to get all the concentrate out...I do this twice.A surprisingamount of extra concentrate is saved in this fashion.I then remove the carafe,place a plastic bag over the top of upper unit and invert itinto the bag.The round filter is right at the top and I can easily pick itout.
In the sink I have placed a very large bowl (I use a stainless one) and rinse the parts that need it into the bowl.The grounds do not get away or get down my drain.When done I can just toss the bowl of water and grounds rinsed from the filter, etc. into my back yard and the clean up is basically complete.
