Krups XP4050 1200-Watt 15-Bar-Pump Programmable Espresso Machine Review

I must start with saying that this is my second XP4050 in one month, the first suffering from two problems.One problem was the same that others have mentioned here, when water stops coming out of the filter head and instead just dumps into the drip tray from an apparent overflow-type valve in the bottom of the machine.This only happened once, corrected itself, and never happened again.The second problem was that I noticed a small amount of water occasionally leaking from the buttons on the front and the stainless portion on the front of the machine would also get VERY hot.I believe these were one problem, possibly the brewing portion leaking.

I contacted Amazon online and was shocked at the ease and speed of getting a replacement model.At no charge to me, including shipping, I had a brand new XP4050 within 3 days.

The new model works perfect.I am a somewhat new espresso afficienado, having been making my own at home for only about 2 years.This is my second machine, my first being a Krups Gusto that recently died.I decided on the XP4050 after a great deal of research and comparing features versus cost.The price I got this model through Amazon was literally half what I was looking at with other brands.

As far as use of the machine, it couldn't be easier.I use mostly pods but have tried grounds with equally easy and great tasting shots.The three different filter baskets for brewing are held in the handle firmly, which was an issue in my old Krups Gusto (I accidently threw away the single shot filter basket).The frother performs very well although I have not tried the attachment for pulling the milk from a separate container.As others have said, make sure you keep an eye on your drip tray, it does tend to fill quickly.I empty mine every 4-6 shots.

Overall, even considering my initial "problem" model, I am extremely happy with the XP4050.It's a great looking, inexpensive, easy to use machine that consistently puts out quality shots of espresso.I would recommend this model to either new beginners or someone looking to step up a little.

Pasquini Livia 90 Automatic Espresso Machine Review

Recently my La Pavoni broke down after 3 years, so I had to look for another machine. My machine of choice for espresso has always been Cimballi, but I was not impressed with any of their machines, which did not require a water line. After some searching and recommendation from a friend I happened upon the Pasquini Livia 90.

As far as espresso machines go, the Pasquini Livia 90 is the best unit that does not require a water line.The water resevoir holds a very large amount of water and the espresso made with this machine is simply amazing.

A good espresso should have a thick layer of creme on top (goldish brown in color) which will hold the sugar poured in to the coffee afloat for a few seconds.The Pasquini Livia 90 was the first machine I've owned to accomplish the feat.I've owned a $700 Krups Fully Automated Machine, used a $3,000 Fully Automated Machine and owned the La Pavoni fully manual machine.However, the Pasquini was the only machine to provide the perfect creme.

The steam produced by the machine will froth milk for any of the popular espresso drinks and the ability to draw hot water from the unit is also a nice touch.Unlike some machines you can leave the unit on for long periods of time without having to worry about burning out the machine.

Pasquini Livia 90 Semiautomatic Commercial Espresso/Cappuccino Machine Review

I bought the Pasquini Livia 90 Automatic in 2002. The version I needed was for 240 volt operation so it was shipped from Italy. At the same time I also ordered the grinder and 2 drawer base. I had spent a lot of time reading reviews and comments on several sites for a wide variety of machines. The number of reviews which compared their brands to the Pasquini Livia machines was what really sold me on the Pasquini. You don't compare your machine(s) to lesser machines, you compare against the best. If so many various reviews used Pasquini as a target then it must be well worth a look. I am glad I did, it is an extremely well built and reliable machine.

I have mine on for 12 to 16 hours per day and make and serve quite a lot of espresso and cappuccino to family and friends. The Pasquini is also used for tea, cocoa, instant soups and anything else that calls for the use of near boiling water. The machine gets it right every time, any variation in quality is due to the coffee, the milk or the user. It took a bit of time to learn how to use it effectively but it has never disappointed me.

The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the choice of a plastic water storage reservoir in the machine. I think that a stainless steel tank would be a better choice due to the effects of age, heat and vibrations which caused some cracks in my original tank. Pasquini replaced it free of charge even though the machine was out of warranty! A stainless steel tank would add to the noise level though and it already is not a stealthy machine. The pump is by no means quiet, but it certainly does the job and I'm sure will continue to do so for years to come.

I recommend Pasquini without reservation based on the machine and the service I have had when dealing directly with the company on several occasions.

Espressione 1377 Cafe Chic Cappuccino Maker, Anthracite Grey Review

I upgraded from a very cheap little steam-only machine with no pump, and the cafe chic certainly makes better espresso than that. The company claims that Cafe Chic is easy to clean, and they are telling the truth- the bad news is that as messy as this machine is, it has to be easy to clean or you'd never get to enjoy the products of your labors. As soon as I turn on the steam function, steam also comes out of the espresso maker, which has a very ineffective seal and leaks badly- I constantly have soggy coffegrounds all over everything. The steamer itself is nice, it does a good job in relatively little time, but it's in a very bad place. The steamer is off to the side, and very low, so it's difficult to get the steamed milk out without spillage. In the picture, the steamer actually looks usable, but the picture is NOT accurate- point in fact, the picture includes 2 espresso shot cups, which are not included. The espresso maker comes with a micro-filter that also has problems, your grounds don't drain, so the best of your espresso just sits there...Bottom line- it makes decent espresso, or as good as it can get while using a mere 15 bars of pressure, at an inexpensive price, but you get what you pay for. If you can, save up a little extra and go for something pricier- it'll be worth it. Wish I had...

Capresso 303.01 4-cup Espresso Cappuccino Machine and Cleaner Bundle Review

We had a bit smaller version of this for years and LOVED it!! This one looks prettier but it is harder to use. We always steamed milk right in our mug before but with this one it is almost impossible to do because it immediately foams over and makes a huge mess. It does not adjust to steam/froth so you just get froth! It drives me crazy! I would rather have the other Capresso that is a bit smaller but worked great. If you never steam milk I suppose the espresso part works fine. I don't like it :(

Nespresso D150 Espresso & Cappuccino Maker Review

The Nespresso D150 is so easy to use and maintain and it makes the best espresso I have ever had. It could not be simpler to use:1. fill the cleverly designed water container (it has a handle that makes it easy to place it in the receptacle behind the machine) 2. turn on the power switch 3. wait about 60-90 seconds for the yellow light to go off (which indicates the water has reached the proper temperature) 4. put in your favorite pre-ground/pre-tamped/pre-measured coffee capsule 5. place your espresso cup under the handle 6. turn the switch in front and then within seconds you will have made delicious espresso (with incredible crema!) with your own two hands! : ) The only thing that I don't love about the D150 is the frother. I have yet to make great foam with it. No matter how hard I try I always end up with a tiny bit of foam and a pitcher full of scalding hot milk. Maybe I'm not doing it right? I'm not sure. Whatever the case, I still love the Nespresso D150 and I'm completely satisfied with my purchase. The best part of owning it is the reaction from your friends when they taste your espresso for the first time.They won't believe you did it all by yourself! Over all, if you're like me (a complete novice "barrista" who's addicted to good coffee) , you'll enjoy the simplicity of the Nespresso's design, the convenience of the capsules, and the way that this machine makes it easy for just about ANYONE to make great espresso at home.Bye Bye Starbucks!

This is my third machine in 12 years.My first machine was a Krups Novo with a thermal heat block and a back pressure or modified filter holder.My second machine was a Starbucks Barista with a stainless steel boiler but also with a back pressure filter holders which produce a simulated espresso.The La Pavoni Napoletana is the real thing.You can't make or buy a better espresso.

This is an excellent espresso machine for the starter or the advanced barista.Heats up quickly and the heavy brass boiler, brass head and filter holder keep the machine ready for use.Consistently pulls espresso with a nice crema.The steam function provides plenty of steam to whip up thick frothed milk for cappuccinos.The grinder is easy to adjust maybe a little loud and holds enough beans for about 14 shots.The grinder isn't centered over the filter so you need to hold the filter tipped towards the back to keep the coffee in the holder. The machine is solid stainless steel, the drip trays are plastic but good enough.The reservoir holds 3 liters and is a little tight to remove and replace.The pump supplies plenty of pressure.I use the grinder setting between 5 - 4 depending on the bean.

Note:If you want a real espresso machine stay away from the machines with thermal heat blocks or steel boilers and any machine that uses a back pressure or modified filter holders isn't going to make a real espresso.

I purchased this from Amazon in January and found it makes great espresso for a relatively small and light weight machine. I also have a Sirena which is much sturdier and more expensive but I think that the Gaggia makes a better espresso. They called me back promptly and were very helpful.They were able to resolve the problem with me over the phone with a simple screwdriver in about 5 minutes. They actually knew a lot about the machine and I didn't need to send it back and wait 5 weeks!Despite the issue with the lights, I think the machine has been well worth it.

Factory-Reconditioned Breville XXESP8XL Café Roma Espresso Maker Review

I've only had this product for 2 weeks now so can't comment on it's reliability as a refub., but I have used it at least twice a day without issue.Needed a new espresso machine since my old KRUPS pump machine finally gave out after about five years. It's definitely a beautiful looking machine and if you follow the directions about heating and priming, you will make yourself a very good cup of espresso!It is solidly built with some heft to it and the pump system puts out good pressure for pulls and frothing.The heating plate on top does take awhile to heat up and warm cups, but it does finally get very warm.Also on this older model the frothing wand does not swivel front and back like the newer model, but I have no problems with it being stationary as it is.Alas this refurb. does not come with the stainless cup and saucer pair as described (hence 1 less star), but the great price more than makes up for it.I'm totally satisfied with this product so far....

WMF Kult 4-Cup Stovetop Espresso, 4 Cup Review

I researched carefully and I can only conclude that the maker of this espresso machine (stovetop) wants to give the impression that it is a German-designed including manufactured, product.When I received the espresso maker, in print so fine as to need a magnifying glass, is the disclosure: made in China.This item is therefore not befitting it's price and is not a clear advantage to use due to it's technology and quality (as is the impression given). It has been my experience that stainless steel from China or Korea is of poor quality and will in short time stain. Having held this in my hand, I do not find it remarkable.I have ordered in it's stead, a stovetop espresso maker that still offers 18/10 stainless steel quality, a noted reputable manufacturing company (with origin) at a fair cost.

Bialetti "Brikka" 4-cup (6 Oz) Stove Top Espresso Maker Review

Greetings, I love this stove top espresso maker but there are some differences you may find of value.
1)- The boiler where you put the water can only be filled about 25% compared to most at 70% which means a rather large unit in relation to the amount of espresso you can make.
2)- Maintenance is more than others because this machine uses more pressure and there are more seals to replace when necessary. These are not readily available locally and you will probably have to have them shipped to you at an extra expense that may exceed your sense of reasonableness. Also..most of these types of machines come with extra seals. This unit doesn't come with any extra seals at all.
3)- The picture looking through the window at the top of the machine seeing the nice crema is a farce. The only way to see the nice crema if you carefully follow the directions is to lift the lid up and wipe the condensation off of the inside that is always present that blocks your view.
4)- Realize that this unit is made of Aluminum and some are concerned with the toxic effects of that if any gets into your Java that has high acidity content.

Plusus include -
1)- Very nice and tasty espresso superior to other stove top machines.(no aluminum taste)
2)- Really nice crema but only if yor coffee is of a fine grind #1, or #2 and the coffee needs to be freshly ground. If you buy pre-ground coffee packages at the market you will not be seeing any crema. I buy fresh coffee ground by the half pound at #1, or #2 fine grind and get really good results.

Solis Master 5000 Fully Automatic Espresso and Coffee Center - Black Review

This is the only super auto espresso machine I have had. It's been running daily for four years and six weeks without a hitch. I'm estimating just at 6,000 cups of coffee. The water container holds 64 ounces, with a large removable lid, easy to fill from the top. The container also lifts right up and off the machine. The bean hopper has the same large lid and holds close to a pound of beans I estimate. The floor of the bean hopper has fairly shallow sloping sides and if you use very oily beans, they can fail to slide into the grinder. It's no problem to just push them on down. There is a little plastic cover over the burr grinder to prevent beans from flying up, I removed it to allow me to push the oily beans down. You need a little Torx bit. The four controls are dead simple: There is a rotary knob to vary the amount of coffee you make. I believe the amount of grinds is the same no matter the cup size you select. Select a small cup size and you get espresso, select a larger cup size for coffee. There is a brew button; hit it once for one cup or twice in quick succession, it will grind twice the amount of coffee, and make two cups. There is a steam button, tap it to get steam. There is a steam/ hot water valve. Open it to get hot water for tea or soup, or if you pressed the steam button, steam for frothing. And boy does this thing make great coffee crema! It will absolutely ruin you for any coffee you get "on the outside."The spout has two openings, you can put one or two cups under it. It slides up and down but not too high, you can't fit really large mugs under there unless you tip them a little sideways. If you thought you could put a really large mug under the spout by removing the drip tray, you can't. The machine won't brew with the drip tray removed, there is a safety switch or interlock. It's not a big issue, just use a mug that fits! The machine has a rotary base so you can swivel it around. You need to do a little maintenance now and then, take out the brew group and rinse it real well, and decalcify periodically. My sister ruined hers by not decalcifying, she uses rock hard San Antonio water. I use well water from a limestone aquifer, and run it through a water softener. The sodium doesn't bother me or this machine! Empty out the drip tray every day, takes about thirty seconds. The used puck holder holds at least 12 pucks I would guess. I empty it daily no matter what, just because I don't like the smell of used coffee grinds wafting around the kitchen. As far as the steam frothing wand , I can't comment because I don't use it. I just drink coffee and espresso. The crema on both is excellent. When I bought this it seemed really expensive at $575, but I see that it is truly a bargain compared to the price of so many other Jura, Delonghi, Saeco and others. Of course the price is no longer $575, but still it is less expensive than many. It's all plastic, if you are concerned with that aesthetic, but the coffee quality is superb. I wouldn't buy any other brand other than just out of curiousity! The thing has never failed and makes great tasting coffee and espresso.
